Hi

I’m Meredith, A Heart Mom Turned Historical Fiction Writer

My life was forever changed in 2016 when my daughter was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. I had never been a medical caregiver and had never heard of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

I had a crash course in all things cardiac care. My daughter’s care started with regular prenatal screenings and continued at her birth with a trip to the NICU. At five days, she had her first heart surgery. Much more followed until, sadly, my daughter’s life was cut short at two years. Every moment of her presence brought my family joy. She was loved and she is missed.

Writing stories about families like mine became a passion. My first attempts were ful of grief. They likely will never be seen by the public. It became clear that I needed to  apply my hand to writing craft.

Now, it is my pleasure to prepare to put my first full length novel into the marketplace. Keeping with my personal beliefs, every book going forward will endeavor to explore what happens when faith intersects, perhaps clashes, with healthcare.

My Philosophy

01

Faith First

It’s important to me to make sure that my work honors God. That doesn’t mean that my characters are perfect or unrealistic. On the contrary, they have battles and struggles just like you and I. They must fail, succeed, and learn in the same way that we all do as we learn to walk with God in holiness.

02

History of Healthcare

It is fascinating to research what events transpired that lead doctors to create medical breakthroughs. Was it accidental? Was it a life’s pursuit? Were the advancements accepted right away or ridiculed? Each question I ask seems to lead to three more.

03

Living in Modern Times

Now its time to consider the intersection of faith and healthcare. What moral and ethical debates were made in light of new discoveries? Were patients hesitant to undergo untried procedures or did they line up for a chance at improving their lives?

Telling my story by telling your story.

The first story I attempted to write was too close to my own. It hurt to do so. The emotions were too intense. By telling your stories, I get to tell parts of my own.

Exploring how Christians see healthcare

Studying the doctors who made new discoveries

Looking at the families that chose new treatments
